Ubiquitous Internet in an integrated satellite-terrestrial environment: The SUITED solution
yesThe current Internet architecture appears to
not be particularly suited to addressing the
emerging needs of new classes of users who wish
to gain access to multimedia services made available
by ISPs, regardless of their location, while
in motion and with a guaranteed level of quality.
One of the main objectives of so-called nextgeneration
systems is to overcome the limitations
of todayÂżs available Internet by adopting an
approach based on the integration of different
mobile and fixed networks. The SUITED project
moves in this direction since it aims at contributing
to the design and deployment of the global
mobile broadband system (GMBS), a unique
satellite/terrestrial infrastructure ensuring
nomadic users access to Internet services with a
negotiated QoS. A description of the main features
of the GMBS architecture, characterized
by the integration of a multisegment access network
with a federated ISP network is given in
this article. The GMBS multimode terminal is
schematically described, and an overview of the
so-called QoS-aware mobility management
scheme, devised for such a heterogeneous scenario,is provided
Umbro Apollonio e l’Archivio della Biennale di Venezia (1948-1972)
In 1948 Rodolfo Pallucchini requested the collaboration of Umbro Apollonio to organize the 24th Venice Biennale. In 1949 the critic became the permanent curator of the Historical Archive of Contemporary Art (The Biennale Archive). First of all Apollonio organized the archival documentation of the Biennale and for this reason he thought of a new project for the library and the archive: to realize it he previously entrusted with the architect Carlo Scarpa and then with BBPR Group. After the great disorders of the 1968 edition, in 1970 Apollonio became Bienniale director. He curated with Dietrich Mahlow the special exhibition «Proposal for an experimental exhibition». On this occasion, a strong dialogue with the public was sought, focusing on issues such as art and society, art and production, analysis of seeing. The result was an exhibition holding arts from historical avant-garde to the most recent researches
Evidence of a geomagnetic effect on extensive air showers detected with the ARGO-YBJ experiment
The geomagnetic field causes not only the east-west effect on primary cosmic rays but also affects the trajectories of the secondary charged particles in the shower, causing their lateral distribution to be stretched. Thus, both the density of the secondaries near the shower axis and the trigger efficiency of detector arrays decrease. The effect depends on the direction of the showers, thus, introducing a modulation in the measured azimuthal distribution. The azimuthal distribution of the events collected by the ARGO-YBJ detector is deeply investigated for different zenith angles in light of this effect
